Osteoporosis Outpatient Clinic continues to serve as the subunit of Osteoporosis Diagnosis and Treatment Division.

Osteoporosis Outpatient Clinic was established by Prof. Dr. Nurten ESKIYURT in 1992. Osteoporosis outpatient clinic was restructured after the purchase of bone densitometry device in 2002 and continued its mission under the name of “Osteoporosis Diagnosis and Treatment Unit”.

Purpose of Establishment

  • To diagnose osteoporosis which results in significant health problems and increase in frequency due to increased population of elderly, sedentary life style and feeding habits
  • To provide up-to-date drug therapy and rehabilitation programs in order to treat osteoporosis and prevent its complications
  • To perform long-term follow-up of the patients considering chronic nature of osteoporosis
  • To conduct preventive trainings and exercise programs in order to prevent osteoporosis and related fractures
  • To provide the patients with a high quality care and to establish a data bank for the scientific researches by constructing computer-assisted registration system

What We Do

A file is created on the computer for each patient containing all relevant information. Patients admitted to our outpatient clinic for the first time and those referred from the other departments undergo physical examination; if indicated, bone densitometry measurements, blood and urine tests and dorsal and/or lumbar vertebral X-ray images are obtained. Based on the available data, the diagnosis of the patient is being established; then appropriate medical treatment and rehabilitation program are arranged. When indicated, patients are consulted with the specialists of Endocrinology or Obstetrics and Gynaecology Departments in order to determine the causes of the secondary osteoporosis and to provide their treatment. Patients followed by osteoporosis outpatient clinic come for control visit with certain intervals depending on their diagnosis and treatment programs. On control visits, if deemed necessary, investigations are requested; patients are re-evaluated and their treatment program is reviewed.
